Our Family’s Autumn Routine
For us, autumn is not just a season. It’s a gentle transition — a moment where life softens a little and invites us back into what truly feels like home.
Every year, without even realising it, we form our own little family routine — a set of quiet rituals that connect us to the season, to nature, and to each other.
Our mornings slow down
Even when the schedule is busy, something about the crisp autumn air makes us move a little softer. A warm drink, a “mom, look at the clouds”, a tiny kiss before the day begins.
We don’t rush like before. We let the rhythm find us.
Small neighbourhood walks
With Dimitris, we take little walks — to pick up something from the store or simply to check which leaves have changed colour today.
Every time, we notice something new: a tree turning yellow, a dog full of autumn energy, the smell of wood smoke. It’s like our own mini adventure.
The first pumpkins enter the house
Our kitchen becomes a little more orange. Pumpkin for soup, for pies, for rice… And always, always, my son wants to lift it: “Let me see how heavy it is!”
Without knowing it, this is his first lesson in seasonal eating.
Candles begin to glow
Afternoons become the perfect moment for a small pause. A candle, soft music, a cozy vibe that gently says: “We’re here. Together. And that’s enough.”
Little autumn treats
We make simple, warm recipes: baked apples, cinnamon oats, little vegan cookies, fruits of the season — and of course, a little pumpkin spice here and there.
Sometimes the aroma is enough to change the mood in the whole house.
Ending the day with books
When the day slows down, we read. Children’s books, stories, little tales that bring peace to our evenings.
These are the moments when time feels like it pauses just a little.
A routine that brings us closer
Autumn teaches us that beauty often lives in quiet moments. And each year, our little routine becomes a soft way of finding each other again.
